Vacuum vs Vacuum

I have heard that it is really quiet in space. N says that is because space is a near vacuum. When I looked at her kinda funny she elaborated. She said that a vacuum in space means that there are no particles at all. She also said that the reason it is quiet is because sound waves travel by compressing particles against each other to pass on the information. With no particles, or lots of space between particles the sound cannot be transmitted, and thus it is quiet. That made a lot more sense. I was totally imagining a giant vacuum cleaner in space, which as we all know is very loud...but I guess even in space it would be quiet. I wish that J and N could vacuum within a vacuum when they vacuum the carpets. Then it would be quieter....but I guess if it was in a vacuum then there wouldn't be anything to vacuum anyway since there has to be little to no particles for it to be a vacuum. Oi..my puppy brain hurts. I think that what I can conclude from this is that I hate vacuums either way!
