My Favorite Things

Since the astronomers are kinda boring right now; they just got back from a trip and I am trying to get them back into my routine of walks, meals and belly rubs, I figured I would tell you all a little more about myself. More specifically, my favorite things. I already mentioned three of them in the above sentence. Oh walks. When I hear that word "walk" I can't help it but get excited. As soon as they say that magic word, my tail starts wagging and I can hardly contain myself. The problem is that they say the word walk and then take what seems like forever to actually get ready. They have to put these weird things on their feet, I think they call them shoes, and sometimes a coat if it is cold. I know what a coat is because sometimes they also put one on me when it is cold or wet out, but right now it is really hot so no coats for any of us. Also, they can't seem to open a door unless I sit. I wonder if it some sort of ritual that requires a dog to sit before a door can open. They really need to look into better ways of getting outside. Makes me wonder how they got anywhere without me. Anyway, once we get out there, it is glorious. So much freedom (well within the length of my leash anyway) and so many smells. Every tree is a story and there is never enough time to digest it all. Some of the trees on our route have been cut down though. I am not sure why but I heard Nicole talk about some sort of bugs that required them to be cut down. New ones seem to be growing now though so hopefully the news returns to that part of the street.

I also like to play with my toys. I love it when Jeff and Nicole come home with new toys. My most recent acquisition is a pink elephant. I think it is supposed to replace the blue dog with all the squeakers that I accidentally chewed the ear off of. There is that chewing again. What can I say, I have always been a nibbler. Some of my toys seem to last a long time while others do not. If they can't stand up to my nibble test, they are taken away. I have lost many a friend to this: Mrs. Prickles, Legs, the original Pinky, Pig (he lasted less than a day!). But others have stood the test of time: Cow, Moose, Pinky (the elephant), Mr. Prickles, and many others but those four are my favorite of the bunch. My most favorite toy however is the tennis ball I got for my last birthday. I don't play with it all the time; only when Jeff or Nicole decide to throw it for me.That ball is so much fun. When it bounces off of things I can only guess where it is going to go. Sometimes my hind legs don't get the message to turn soon enough and I end up sprawled on the floor as the bright yellow ball rolls just out of reach, taunting me. I blame the wood floor. I can't get traction (that's a word I have learned from the astronomers) when I have to turn quickly. But I get that ball every time and bring it back so it can be thrown again.

My final favorite thing (well for this post, I have many more but I don't want to take up all your time) is sleeping on the big bed. I have the right side of the bed. Nicole thinks that is her side, but I know better. She doesn't take up all the room like Jeff does therefore, it is free for the taking. I especially like to steal her pillow. She just got a new one and it is so comfy. When I do that she calls me her hat. I have been doing that since I can remember. Sometimes Nicole and Jeff switch sides, but I have staked my claim and am not going to move...and so sometimes I am his hat instead. The rest of the time I sprawl out at the end of the bed. A girl has got to have her space!

And now I must go for today, it is my bath time!
